Hello! I’m your instructor!
Just like you…I went to school
I had formal schooling. I still learn all the time.
I enjoy running…
And attending…
I usually take Hubz, family, or friends on my art and music exploration adventures.
UKULELE!!!! I play the ukulele obsessively!! I host an international open mic and jam every Friday night and have people from across the USA. There are always folks from 4-5 different countries who attend – even countries like Turkey and Brazil.
I teach ukulele at the Folk School and through Patreon, and I have a YouTube Channel.
I’ll be taking you on a virtual exploration of music. Let’s begin, shall we!?
If you were to have a theme song or theme composition, what would it be? (Introductions Part 1)
In the first 3 days of class, introduce yourself below in a comment in ONE sentence that describes your superpower. In Unit 3, you will be doing more in-depth introductions on your own blog.
I really like country music. But I am not a hater on most types of music. I enjoy many genres. I think my theme song would be hunting, fishing, loving everyday because that is what I usually enjoy most.
Hi, my name is Cynthia and I love many many different types of music. There are only two genres of music that bug me and that is country and christian music. I am currently cast in a musical called “Pirates of Penzance” and there are a few tunes from the show that are super catchy and constantly play in my head. I have been playing the piano for 11 years and the ukulele for two years now. I am debating on picking up the trumpet sometime soon. I am very excited to be in this course and to build on my knowledge of music.
My theme song would be Dancing With Myself by Generation X and my superpower would be flying because it would be a thrilling experience.
Hi, my name is Ntxheeyees Cameron Yang. I prefer to go by Cameron, however, if you would like to know how to pronounce my first name, it is pronounced as Say-Ying. I usually tend to listen to pop or r&b music, and tend to stay away from heavy metal or rock music. I do not currently play an instrument, but I did play the violin when I was in middle school and high school. If I had a theme song I think I would “This Is Me” from the Greatest Showman.
Introduction part 1.
I don’t know what song really fits me but I absolutely love Hozier so I would choose a popular song by him, called “Work Song”
My superpower
I would say my superpower is the ability to bore people with my long talks and rants about useless things.
Hi my name is Avery and I would describe my music taste as one that varies depending on the vibe of the day. I like a lot of musical theater-esque music as well as folk music, but I also love hits from the 80’s and country music as well. I also have an unseasonal Christmas music obsession, meaning that I don’t care what time of year it is, sometimes Christmas music just scratches my brain! Music is wonderful in nearly all forms, but I really dislike screamo or heavy metal and even sometimes techno drives me nuts.
I play the ukulele very casually and without any true form, but that’s the way I like it! 🙂
My theme song would be “Send Me on My Way” by Rusted Root. This song plays in my head anytime I’m on an adventure.
My favorite type of music is folk or pop. I am very iffy about country music (although it’s starting to grow on me). My current on-repeat song is Funeral by Pheobe Bridgers, you should go give it a listen. If I were to have any superpower it would be to rewind time.
My name is Claire and a little bit about myself would be that I moved to Alaska two years ago, have 2 jobs, and 2 dogs. So I believe my superpower would be multitasking.
Hey everyone! My name is Ryder and my favorite type of music is probably folk. I enjoy most kinds of music, but I probably listen to more folk than anything else. I probably dislike electronic music the most as I really enjoy the vocals in songs and there seems to be the least amount of that in electronic music. I unfortunately do not know how to play any instruments. If I were to have a theme song it would probably be Hopeless wanderer by Mumford and Sons.
Mandy Raad is my name, and catching the easy to miss moments in my lens is my game.
Hello, I’m Eva.
I play the keyboard, ukulele, and guitar when I get the time to practice. My favorite type of music is almost anything Industrial and I also like a lot of Techno. I hate Taylor Swift. She is the perfect example of a trend jumper and it’s the only way she’s remained relevant for over a decade. I also think she’s just an awful person. I do enjoy some pop though, just not her.
I am looking forward to this next semester!
I find myself enjoying music with a calming instrumental value or music with heavier bass in it. I don’t listen to music that has a lot going on or if I can’t understand the lyrics, I find myself trying so hard to concentrate on what is going on that I don’t get to enjoy the music itself. I normally don’t get songs stuck in my head anymore, especially since most of the day is spent listening to music. I think I was in elementary school the last time I played any instrument, my family had a piano in the living room and school required everyone to play a recorder. Even though it’s been years, I can still remember how to play “Hot Cross Buns” on a recorder. On the piano, I think it was “Little Bunny Foo Foo”, but I can’t remember the exact keys to the tune. If I had to choose just one song that would be my theme song would probably be ” A Little Bit Stronger” by Sara Evans.
I’m Mackenzie and I was born and raised in Anchorage. I would say my favorite genre of music is probably folk music. My favorite bands are Mt. Joy and Noah Kahan. I have been to both of their concerts through the state fair and had the time of my life. I played the trumpet back in 6th grade but it didn’t stick and I don’t play any instruments right now. If I had a theme song I don’t even know what it would be. I think I would have to chose “Hey Jude” by the Beatles.
Introduction 1
Hello, my name is Jarrod and my favorite type of music is a tie between heavy metal and nordic/viking folk music. The type of music I dislike the most is hip hop and new rap. I just can’t get into it. I use to play the clarinet in elementary and middle school, but haven’t touched and instrument since. If I had a theme song it would more than likely be Valhalla Calling by Miracle of Sound, Eric Hollaway, and Peyton Parrish.
My superpower
If I had a superpower I would choose invincibility, it would come in handy with work.
Hey everybody! My name is Peyton Pennica and I’m originally from North Carolina. A few of my hobbies are playing sports, working out, and hunting and fishing. I’m stationed over at Eielson AFB and about halfway done with my bachelor’s in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. I’ll have to say country music is by far my favorite, although I do enjoy rock and rap while at the gym. I wouldn’t say I have music genre I dislike but, I have never really been able to get into punk rock or heavy metal. Recently, I’ve been stuck on Muscadine Bloodlines new album! If I had to pick a theme song for myself I’d have to choose Theme from Dukes of Hazzard by Waylon Jennings.
Hi! My name is Lucas, and I’m a junior Mechanical Engineering student here at UAF. I grew up in Alaska and graduated high school from Colony in Palmer, AK. I love sports, but more specifically basketball and weightlifting. My two favorite music genres are country and hip-hop, and I would say I dislike overplayed radio music. I do not play an instrument, and if I had a theme song it would be I Deserve a Drink by Morgan Wallen.
Hi! My name is Ashley Perry, I am from Anchorage and am an Elementary Ed major:)
As for what kind of music I enjoy, I really just like any upbeat and fast music.. so I guess pop? I find myself singing along to anything that is loud and happy. I gravitate to music that brings the mood up. With that, I do not enjoy quiet music or ones with sad undertones.
My stances are rather ironic considering I play the viola which is not especially known for upbeat tempos!
mmmm… if I had a theme song I think it would be any Justin Bieber song, he just has a very nostalgic discography that I still enjoy.
Hello, my name is Rebecca, my superpower is the superpower of being confident/direct with everyone and just being straight to the point.
If I were to have a theme song it would probably be “Too Sweet” by Hozier.
Hello everyone,
My name is De’Ja and I’ve been in love with music for as long as I can remember. While in school, I was in orchestra, choir, I joined drama for the musicals, and the list goes on. I also have a very eclectic palette when it comes to music. I listen to everything from Fall Out Boy, to Ludacris, and a little bit of everything else in between. As far as instruments I’ve played, I’ve played the violin, and I also did handbells.
I look forward to this class and what I’ll learn along the way.
Hello,
My name is Porter Baffrey and I am decent at rafting. I come from a very outdoorsy family and am on a 4-month road trip. I am taking all my classes online and look forward to learning more about music exploration.
Hey everyone, my name is Garrett Taylor, I do not play any instruments, I really enjoy pop, country, and Indie music; I very much dislike jazz and rap. I currently have Apple by Charli xcx stuck in my head due to Tik Tok. If I had a theme song, according to my friends, it would be “Oompa Loompa” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (I disagree).
If I were to have a theme song, I think it would be the 411 by bears in trees. They’re one of my favorite musicians ever and that specific song means a lot to me. Generally, my favorite genre of music is indie, especially indie rock and indie pop, but a specific genre that I’m obsessed with regardless of who it’s by is hyperpop. I don’t actively play any instrument right now, they were too expensive for me to continue outside of high school, but I know how to play the cello, and can play beginner to intermediate levels of violin and double bass. Lastly, I think my superpower is my ability to talk for hours about one of my interests.
Hello,
My name is Landon, and my favorite type of music is alternative rock, and I typically will like most kinds of music. I dislike heavy metal and hard rock and most kinds of electronic music. I used to play the piano when I was younger, but have not played recently, I do want to get back into it though. If I had a theme song, I think it would be twisted by Sam Nelson Harris.
Hello everyone! My name is Lincoln Scherzer and my favorite type of music is alternative rock. I tend to like most genres of music but my least favorite would probably be country. Throughout my childhood I learned to play several different instruments but none of them stuck, and now I unfortunately don’t remember how to play any of them. If I were to have a theme song it would be Where The Streets Have No Name by U2.
Hello everyone! My name is Lincoln Scherzer and my favorite type of music is alternative rock. I tend to enjoy most genres of music but I don’t really like country. Throughout my childhood I learned to play several different instruments but none of them stuck, and now I unfortunately don’t remember how to play any of them. If I had a theme song it would be Where The Streets Have No Name by U2.

Hello everyone! My name is Jaxon Foster and my theme song would be лето, by kino. I have no idea what the song is saying but it sounds nice! I generally listen to all music but recently I’ve been getting more and more into Alternative music. A song I have stuck in my head is Don’t look back in anger by Oasis. I personally do not play any instruments.
Hey there! My name is Sarah Thayer and I think my theme song would be…hmm.. maybe Overdrive by Thomas Rhett. I’m a pretty big fan of country music but my friends have been getting me into trap music lately. I’ve played instruments in the past but none that I’d say I excel at. My experience consists of violin and guitar but I like to mess around on other instruments.
